5/15/2013 - MUSTANGS TAB 7 CMAC ALL-STARS AND HOLLAND CMAC COACH OF THE YEAR!!!!
The Mustangs baseball team shined bright at the All-Star team selection night...
LHP - Eduardo Rodriguez, C Jordan Saunders and CF Cam Washington were selected to the First Team.
2B - Daylin Stevenson and RHP - Levi Wolf were selected to the Second Team
RHP - Chris Reed and SS - Tommy Steadman recieved Honorable Mention.
For the third time, Head Coach James Holland was named CMAC Coach of the Year.
5/15/2013 - MUSTANGS BOW-OUT EARLY IN STATE TOURNEY
Western Hills varsity baseball complete a very successful 17-5 campaign with a season and first round state tournament loss to Anderson 10-0. Mightily as they tried the Mustangs could not overcome a 5-0 deficit in the second inning. The 17-5 record is the best posted in many years for the Mustangs as the look forward to 2014!!!
5/8/2013 - MUSTANGS BASEBALL 2013 CMAC CHAMPS!!!
Western Hills Baseball captured its 40th league championship in school history with a 5-3 victory over Taft today. Eduardo Rodriguez threw a complete game to get the win. This championship is the third in four years and the fourth in six years for West High. The Mustangs current record is 17-4 and 10-1 in the conference.
5/6/2013 - MUSTANGS BASEBALL GET #22 SEED IN UPCOMING STATE TOURNEY vs. ANDERSON!!!!!
At the state baseball tournament draw on Sunday, Western Hills pulls a number 22 seed. Going into the draw the Mustangs overall record of 15-4 would have warranted a better seeding but, it was not the case. West High opens the tournament in the first round on Tuesday May 14 vs. Anderson at Anderson. First pitch is 5:00 pm. Should the Mustangs advance out of the first round, West High wouldmatchup against #2 seed Moeller.
4/22/2013 - CARPENTER-MATHIS SIGNS WITH SINCLAIR!!!!
Jeff Price (Sinclair Community College Men's Basketball Coach) announced that Sinclair has signed Marquez Carpenter-Mathis of Western Hills to a 2013-2014 National Letter of Intent to commit to play basketball next season.
Carpenter-Mathis (6-5/FR) lettered all four years at West High. He also averaged a double-double his senior year (12.5 pts./10.2 rebs), and earned 2nd team All-League.
4/22/2013 - MUSTANGS BASEBALL CONTINUES TO ROLL!!!!
West High puts a 4 spot on the board early which proves to be enough to hold off Hughes 4-2. Starting pitcher Chris Reed posted 10 strikeouts and Junior Eduardo Rodriguez closed the door in the seventh as the Mustangs win 4-2. That brings thier season record t 9-3 and 4-1 in the CMAC (2nd place behind Withrow).
The Mustangs hit the road for the next five games as this homestand comes to an end. The next 5 out of 6 matchups are against CMAC opponents (Woodward, Shroeder, Taft, Hughes) and Winton Woods.
4/19/2013 - MUSTANGS DROP ONE...WIN TWO!!!!!
On Monday this week,the Mustangs lost thier first CMAC game of the season to rival Withrow 6-2, and in such lost thier hold on first place...West High rebounded by winning two games on Wednesday and Thursday but defeated St. Bernard 8-2 and Norwood on Thursday 8-0.
4/9/2013 - MUSTANGS BASEBALL POUNCES PURCELL!!!!!
Mustangs baseball continues thier hot streak. As the weather gets warm, so do the West High bats!!! Western Hills beat Purcell on Tuesday behind a two-hitter thrown by senior pitcher Levi Wolf. Mustangs are now 7-2 and 3-0 in the CMAC.

4/8/2013 - RODRIGUEZ THROWS NO-HITTER FOR MUSTANGS AGAINST SHRODER!!!!
Junior starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez threw the sixth no-hitter in west High baseball history Monday night. With just 69 pitches, Rodriguez put away the Jags behind an offensive punch 10-0. The Mustangs are now 6-2 and a perfect 3-0 in the CMAC.

4/7/2013 - MUSTANGS BASEBALL OFF TO A HOT START!!!!
The West High Baseball team is off to one of thier better starts in recent seasons. In the first six games this year, the Mustangs offense has scored 80 runs!!! 3/30/13 - MUSTANGS WIN BIG IN SEASON OPENER !!!!
The 2013 Mustangs baseball team start out the season on a winning note by defeating Winton Woods 12-2 in 5 innings. Sr. RHP Levi Wolf started and got the win. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez closed the door in the fifth and notched his first save of the year. Cam Washington went 2-3 with 3 RBI, Jordan Saunders hit a 2-run triple and threw out the Warriors fastest runner on a strike 'em out-throw 'em out double play at a key time in the game.
The Mustangs enter league play on April 1 vs. Taft at 4:15 at West High.

2/25/13 - WEST HIGH FROSH WIN CMAC TITLE!!!!
West High boys freshman basketball won the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference Tournament with a win vs. Hughes 49-37. It's the first conference title for the freshman Mustangs and the first for head coach Jamell Taylor.
2/25/13 - WEST HIGH GIRLS HOOP HEAD COACH SELECTED TO LEAD THE WEST ALL-STAR TEAM!!!!
West High girls basketball head coach Derek Williams was selected by his peers to be head coach of the West team in this year's all-star game. This is the first time Coach Williams has been selected and let's hope it's not the last!!!
2/23/13 - MUSTANGS BOW OUT IN FIRST ROUND VS. NORTHWEST!!!
Mightily as they tried, the boys varsity basketball team could not surpass Northwest in the first round of the Ohio State Basketball Tournament. The Knights beat the Mustangs 75-69, ending the Mustangs season at 12-10 overall.
2/21/13 - Reds Futures High School Showcase presented by PNC expands to 64 teams that include Mustangs at home!!!
The second annual Reds Futures High School Showcase presented by PNC is increasing the number of participating schools from 50 to 64, with 20 teams playing in the season opening event for the first time. The Western Hills Mustangs will be making thier second appearance in the showcase. West High will play host to Wyoming at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday April 7th.

The Western Hills Boys Varsity Basketball team enters tournament play on Friday February 22 vs. Northwest High School at Oak Hills H.S. Tipp-off is at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased prior to the game at the Principal's Office for $6.00 or at the door on game day for $7.00.

2/1/13 - AWHAA HALL OF HONOR INDUCTEES SET!!!!!
The 10th Annual Association of West High Alumni Athletes (AWHAA) Hall of Honor Dinner will be held Wednesday March 20, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at The Meadows, 59 East Main Street (Cleves-Warsaw), in Addyston.
AWHAA is honored that one of thier own Hall of Honor Inductees, Gebe Ruehlmann, Class of 1943, will be guest speaker at the event.
Five outstanding West High Alumni Athletes who contributed in various ways to the great athletic reputation of West High, will be inducted into the sports Hall of Honor.
Those to be enshrined to the Class of 2013 are:

Bob Shimzu, '57 - Football, Basketball, Baseball, Tennis and Track
Carole Gudgeon Lemen, '58 - All-Around Girl and Softball

1/26/13 - MUSTANGS BEAT PANTHERS IN "THE PIT"
The West High mens basketball team traveled into the dreaded "PIT" at Elder and beat the westside rival 61-46 in front of a sell-out crowd. This was the first win at Elder in 32 years and the first win over the Panthers for head coach Shawn Kerley!!!
1/15/13 - FORMER MUSTANG PITCHER ENTERS STATE COACHES HALL OF FAME!!!!
1979 West High grad and standout baseball player, Mark Thompson was elected to and entered the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame last friday in Columbus.
Thompson, a standout player at West High played both Soccer and Baseball for the Mustangs and upon graduation, enjoyed a successful career at the University of Cincinnati. Thompson came back to his alma-mater as an assistant baseball coach and helped guide the Mustangs to thier last state baseball championship in 1986.
Thompson is now the head baseball coach at rival Elder High School and is entering his 24th season as the Panther's skipper and as the program's winningest coach with a 455-176 record. Under Thompson, Elder has won two state titles in 1999 and 2000.
Thompson joins two legendary West High Baseball coaches in the OHSBCA Hall of Fame...Dick Hauck and Ken Selby.
1/10/13 - MUSTANGS BRING DOWN FALCONS FRIDAY NIGHT!!!
In a close one at "The Corral", the Mustangs mens basketball team came away victorious against Aiken 63-57. Aiken stayed close all night, largely in part to Falcons senior guard Austin Grimes' game high 20 points. Even though the Mustangs were up by 10 at halftime 30-20...the Falcons charged back.
West High sophomore DeJuan Sherman, Jr. lead the Mustangs in a fourth quarter charge, scoring 8 of his team leading 15 points, including a clutch 3-pointer with less than a minute to go in the game.
The Mustangs up thier record to 6-5 on the season and Aiken falls to 3-8.

1/3/13 - REDS URBAN YOUTH ACADEMY READY TO SWING INTO ACTION FOR WINTER CLINICS AND WORKOUTS!!!!
The Reds Urban Youth Academy, located at old CAPE High School (Gamble Montessori School, 5425 Winton Ridge Lane) off Winton Road will open its doors for Winter Clinics and Workouts beginning Tuesday January 8th. Baseball Infield play, Baseball Hitting Techniques from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm and Softball Fundamentals for girls on Wednesdays from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm.

12/15/12 - WEST HIGH BASEBALL RECEIVES EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FROM CINCINNATI REDS COMMUNITY FUND!!!
The Western Hills baseball team was one of the reciepients of well needed baseball equipment from the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund.
The team received brand new catchers gear, baseballs, gloves and two brand new game ready bats. The equipment was presented to West High Athletic Director Jim Sherard from Reds all-star firstbaseman Joey Votto.

West High Baseball has just announced thier 2013 spring schedule. Opening Night is Saturday March 30 vs. Winton Woods at Home (7:00 p.m.). Highlights on this season's schedule are perinneal league opponents Withrow and Taft as the Mustangs fight for league championship number 40 in school history. The Mustangs will also face Hauser, IN and Cooper H.S., KY in the Tri-State Classic to be played at Champions Window Field (Home of he Florence Freedom), on Saturday March 20, (game time TBA).

10/31/12 - MUSTANGS FINISH FOURTH IN CMAC FOR 2012
Mustangs Football finished the 2012 season with a .500 record of 3-3 in the CMAC Conference and 5-5 overall. The Mustangs finished behind 2012 champion Withrow Tigers with a perfect 6-0 record in the conference and 7-3 overall. Second place went to a suprising Shroder team with a 5-1 record in the CMAC and 8-2 overall. This is the highest the Jaguars have finished since entering the conference 4 years ago. Taft finished the season with a 4-2 / 7-3 tally. Rounding out the field from fifth to seventh were Hughes Big Red 2-4 / 4-6, Woodward Bulldogs 1-5 / 1-9 and the Aiken Falcons 0-6 / 0-10.

10/28/12 - WEST HIGH BASEBALL and SOFTBALL TEAM UP WITH REDS COMMUNITY FUND
In an announcement last week, Western Hills Baseball and Girls Softball have teamed up as partners with the Reds Comumunity Fund to help bring the game back into the inner city. The Reds have also announced plans to open the Reds Urban Youth Academy at Roselawn Park, that will feature two major league specification baseball fields, two upgraded softball fields and an indoor facility for all-year indoor instruction.
The Reds Urban Youth Academy will provide a high-level baseball and softball experience to players in undeserved neighborhoods through-out Greater Cincinnati. Clinics are free and focus on the fundamentals of the game.

10/26/12 - MUSTANGS REIGN (RAIN) OVER AMELIA
The West High football Mustangs bid farewell to thier 2012 seniors tonight as well as said "goodbye" to the Amelia Barons, 40-7. The Mustangs scored early and often, jumping out to an impressive 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Although the weather did not cooperate, the Mustangs offense and defense played like it was sunny and 80 degrees! Senior quarterback Cameron Washington had a night to remember scoring four touchdowns!!! The scoring did not stop there...Senior DeShawn Sloan also touched the end zone and racked up 287 yards rushing. Senior Michael Dukes made his way to pay-dirt as well, scoring a touchdown on his final night.
CONGRATS to the Mustangs and best of luck to the senior class of 2012 as they end the season at the .500 mark with a 5-5 overall record and 3-3 in the CMAC.
10/15/12 - NEW PAINT + NEW ROOF = NEW LOOK!!! This month (October 2012), the West High Athletics Fieldhouse (home to football lockerooms, weightroom, baseball lockeroom and field marker storage) received a well needed fresh coat of paint and over the summer, a new roof.

Lady Mustangs Basketball Announces 2012-2013 Schedule
Women's Basketball starts with a tri-perfecta!!! Thier season opener, home opener and CMAC opener are all on the same date. The Lady Mustangs face off against Shroder Paideia on November 27. Varsity tip-off is at 7:30...JV starts at 6:00 p.m.

Girls Volleyball Places 4 on CMAC All-Star Team
The Lady Mustangs volleyball team had a great season according to Head Coach Peggy Peebles!!! They finished with a 10-8 overall record and 8-4 in the CMAC placing third.
The Lady Mustangs also had thier share of All-League performers as well.

Mustangs fall tonight to Taft 38-26. West High overall record drops to 4-5 and 3-3 in the CMAC.

2012 Football Season Coming To A Close As We Say Farewell To Our Seniors
Friday, October 26 is the 2012 season finale for the football Mustangs vs. Amelia. It will also be SENIOR NIGHT as our 2012 seniors will be reckognized in pre-game activity. Player and parent introduction to begin at approximately 6:30, so get there early to get a good seat and send our seniors off with warm regards!!!
